Gateway to a larger America
As freshmen venture into college and leave their high school lives behind, they realize many new found freedoms; one of which is diet. They are no longer subject to what their parents buy or cook. They don't have their parents to take them out every night or have high school cafeteria food. As young adults, the dining halls can seem overwhelming at first with the variety tasty food, most of which are unhealthy. Freshmen, however, may not come to this realization until after they have gained their freshmen 15. This access to quick, cheap, unhealthy food not only leads to the freshman 15 but can also be a gateway towards the development of poor diet habits. After college these poor diet habits can become more serious and lead to obesity. Therefore the increase of obesity rates, especially the youth of America, can be greatly influenced by college eating habits.
