Nationalism; The Reason for Cultural Conflict?

Ever since human have classified themselves in different groups, such as ethnicities, cultures, and nations, people have taken pride in those identifications. Nationalism is now one of the most predominant classifications, and as a result, it is one of the most potent. Nationalism has many effect on society, some beneficial, and some that negatively impact it. Nationalism brings about unity in a population, a common factor for people to share and celebrate. However, when nationalism gets tainted and it becomes corrupted, the negative effects accumulate, and it starts effecting outside populations as well. As it becomes twisted, nationalism leads to the belief that one’s nation is superior to everyone else’s. Because of this unfounded and chauvinistic view, it leads to clashes with other nations and cultures that experience the same feelings of pride in one’s country. Therefore, cultural conflict is synonymous to nationalistic conflict. Through this, we can claim that nationalism is the main reason for “cultural” conflict.
