I've never been an extremely good writer. I started out as a
very poor writer, but gradually I improved. I read a lot, which increased my
vocabulary and structure in my writing, along with strengthening my understanding
of literature. Previously, it was a very negative experience, but now, it isn’t
too bad, and I can write pretty decently. I’ve done a great deal of different
kinds of writing, from short paragraphs to long, drawn out research papers. The
longest paper I’ve written is around 10 pages, and was around 3,000 to 3,500
words. It was a research paper for my senior English composition class, on the
novel 1984 by George Orwell. However,
there wasn’t much researched involved, just mostly looking back through the
novel, and finding support inside of it. It wasn’t that hard, just it took a
lot of time, and focus to complete it.
When I write, I write in spurts, writing anywhere from just
a few sentences, to a few paragraphs, then taking a break. When I take is
dependent on a lot of factors, such as my ability to focus, to my alertness,
and finally if something else has come to my attention. If I can’t
automatically think of something to write, I will procrastinate for a while,
playing games on my computer, checking Facebook, mess with my phone, among
other things to pass the time. I usually listen to music when I work, but it is
not a necessity. For this post, I am listening to music, and just have a tab opened
to Pandora, with my “A Day To Remember” radio on.
Overall, I am accustomed to writing papers and essays, and
although I do not like to, I can hold my own with them. I will not on my own
just write to write, but I do love creative writing, and fictional writing.
