The Exceptionally Average Writer

Writing and I go way back. As far back as I can remember, I have always been writing in my classes about something. It could be as simple as writing about what I did last weekend or as complicated as a research or lab reports. One thing is for certain though. I am not a huge fan of writing.
Throughout my academic experience I have written countless papers and to be honest I have not had a very positive experience with the majority them. During my younger days it looked like I had promise as a writer. Teachers would always compliment on my “excellent” papers. However, as I progressed to middle school and high school I found my writing was not as good as I had been told.  This is probably because my writing abilities are par level at best in reality. I learned I have never been an extraordinary writer and it usually is reflected in my grades. Any English class I took I found myself struggling mostly due to the writing required for the course. I could blame the grades on the teachers and a hundred other things, but it would not be justifiable. I have found over the years I am more interested in numbers and science. Although there is writing involved in those types of classes it is more my style. Short and sweet with not much thought process involved.
My writing style is not an impressive one. I usually brainstorm for about ten or fifteen minutes then jump right into the paper. Once I run out of ideas or get stuck the procrastination begins to take me over. The internet will suddenly become interesting and the television will be calling my name. After about thirty minutes or so of procrastination, I go back into my brainstorming phase. This process will repeat itself and the paper will eventually be completed. Music usually helps me focus as well as isolating myself from distractions. It usually comes down to my personal motivation.
