How I Write

Writing for school has always been pretty difficult for me. The hardest part is actually starting. I never seem to be able to think of an idea worthy of writing a paper about. Once this task is accomplished, I can then write with very few pauses that only last for a few minutes at a time. This occurs when writing for both personal and academic reasons. Writing has been a fairly mediocre experience for me. When I write in my spare time, the writing seems easier though maybe not as well put together.
I have written a paper that was six pages in length. The paper was extremely formal and needed a title page as well as an in paper works cited and appendices. This essay was for IB History of the Americas. The paper required an idea to be formulated on a certain topic. It required extensive research and a large amount of time. For this essay, we had to read non-fiction novels that were written by historians. The novels contained fairly boring content, but the research was still the easiest part of the whole assignment.
My writing process is very odd. I can’t have music playing, but yet the room cannot be entirely soundless. I prefer for the T.V. to be on so I have some background noise. Also, the T.V. provides me with something I can take a break with when the ides stop flowing. Also, I keep the T.V. on because I can’t stand the sound of a clicking keyboard. Procrastination is a definite problem for me. It gets worse with papers because I know they take a good amount of time to complete. Often when I write, I read back over what I’ve written to make sure I’m not being extremely repetitive. Also, I correct errors in my writing as I go along.
