In the past my writing has been mostly a positive
experience because my teachers did not really care how much we wrote but how
well we answered the question or prompt. Most of these assignments were done in
class and our class time in high school lasted an hour and thirty minutes
giving us a lot of time to write the 3-5 paragraph essays the English
teachers wanted. Most of the writing I’ve done in high school has been on books
we have read or a topic we have to research. The most I have ever written in one
document was my Senior Thesis that took one year to write, second semester of
junior year to the end of the first semester senior year, was 42 pages long,
and was about my current major computer science. My thesis was not that
difficult to write but it took a long amount of time to get research and
experiment, but the experiment practically wrote itself. I wouldn’t want to do
it again, that took a lot of work.
My writing process is mostly organized depending
on what I am writing. If it’s an in class essay I take notes and organize what
I am going to write about but if it is homework I just start writing it because
it’s on a computer and make I changes after I’m done. I usually listen to music
while I write but the TV or any other visual distraction would hinder my
efforts and make the writing really bad or slow down the process. I also take
time to write so I take a lot of breaks and try to space out the work so I
don’t do it the day before. But, I have noticed that sometimes I write better
when I procrastinate. I don’t know why but procrastinating somehow makes me
think more and get better ideas.
